Some sceptics may wonder how we could be "chowing down" and taking pictures at the same time. But division of labor is what makes a good marriage work! I ate bratwurst & potato salad on the patio, while Carla was out in the dark taking time exposures with a tripod. She knows how much I like to see those twinkling lights!
I'm guessing that many of you do as well. So this is a sort of bonus thread, watching the character of the buildings change as dusk falls on the
Deadwood & Dry Gulch Railroad! |
You've seen some of these buildings in previous threads...
But not quite like this
I don't think you've seen quite this angle on the Coca-Cola warehouse.
But it feels a bit lonelier, doesn't it, when the delivery guy is there by himself in the night time?

The Deadwood Train Station, day and night -
And here's the freight station and assay office that we passed by earlier. |
Even during the day, this mine feels sorta' isolated from civilization.
But at night, you can darn near hear the coyotes howling!
Here's a look at some other industries around Deadwood & environs. You didn't get a good look at the lumber mill, for instance. Debbie reworked it after seeing how an old powerplant & overhead pulley system actually works!

On the hill behind the lumber mill is this flume-driven flour mill. As dusk falls, it looks like a good place to get warm. |

We'll leave Deadwood tonight with its lights blinking cheerily, after once again thanking our hosts, Dan and Debbie Goetz.

And we'll leave the following as an exercise for the reader:
The Moral of These Santa Clarita Threads is --
a) If you wire your buildings for light, you can keep away night-time pests and predators!
b) You should eat your pot-luck before it gets cold!
c) Joining a club is a great way to steal share people's ideas and talents! |
